With over 48 years of extensive experience, Dr. Chandy was an internationally recognised orthopaedic surgeon, renowned for his exceptional skills in joint replacements and his pioneering contributions to healthcare in India.
In 1994, after an illustrious 18-year career in the United States, Dr. Chandy returned to India with a singular vision: to establish a world-class healthcare institution that would revolutionise the treatment of orthopaedic conditions, sports injuries, and trauma management. His passion for patient care and commitment to providing cutting-edge medical solutions laid the foundation for what would become one of the largest multispecialty hospitals in Bangalore—HOSMAT.

Dr. Chandy’s qualifications and expertise are truly remarkable. He was a US Board-certified orthopaedic specialist and performed more than 8,000 joint replacements during his 18 years of practice in the United States. Recognised as one of the best orthopaedic surgeons in India, Dr. Chandy specialised in treating complex joint dislocations, pelvic fractures, lateral epicondylitis, rotator cuff injuries, and a wide range of other joint issues. He was also regarded as one of the top doctors for meniscus injuries in Bangalore.
Dr. Chandy’s expertise spanned across partial, total, and revision knee replacements, shoulder surgeries, elbow replacements, and arthroscopy. He completed his MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, in 1976, followed by postgraduate training at the Jewish Hospital and Medical Centre in New York. Dr. Chandy went on to further his education with a series of prestigious fellowships, including MRCS, FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics, and a Certificate of Completion of Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
His career also saw him complete specialist training in arthroscopy, sports medicine, and knee surgery at the University of Oklahoma in 1983. He held fellowships from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons (UK), and the International College of Surgeons, further cementing his position as a leader in his field.
Dr. Chandy’s vision for HOSMAT was rooted in his belief that healthcare should be accessible, affordable, and compassionate. He sought to create a centre of excellence where patients would receive the highest standard of care, combined with the latest advancements in medical technology.
